Worldpay Access + Shuttle

Worldpay Access, the enterprise gateway platform from Worldpay, now part of Global Payments, represents the processing scale of one of the world’s largest payment companies. The Access platform is its modern API-driven gateway. Worldpay’s direct relationships with card networks and issuing banks worldwide translate to authorization rate advantages that are difficult for smaller processors to match, particularly for enterprise-volume merchants.

Shuttle connects Worldpay Access to a PSP-neutral payment layer. Through Shuttle’s Embedded Payment Layer, platforms can put high-volume merchants on Worldpay Access for its authorization rates while keeping connections to specialized regional processors or alternative PSPs. If one processor has an outage, the platform can move the affected payment types to another connected PSP. There is no automatic failover, and saved cards stay with the gateway that stored them, so repeat payments on stored cards will not run through the second one. Voice Checkout transactions can be processed through Worldpay Access.

The decision to access Worldpay through Shuttle rather than integrating directly reflects a strategic reality that even the largest processors do not excel everywhere. Worldpay’s strength is its global scale and major market coverage, but specific regions or verticals may be better served by local specialists. Shuttle allows platforms to pair Worldpay Access with complementary processors, using Worldpay for primary global processing while merchants in specific markets run through local acquirers that offer better rates or higher approval percentages in their home markets. Shuttle gives platforms Worldpay’s transaction and refund data in the same format as other PSPs, so they get a single view of their payments regardless of which processor handled each transaction. For platforms operating at enterprise scale, this turns the processor from a fixed dependency into a configuration choice.
