Why NAB?

Overview

National Australia Bank (NAB) is one of Australia’s four major banks and a leading payment acquirer in the Australian market. NAB Transact, the bank’s payment gateway, provides domestic acquiring for Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and local payment methods including EFTPOS, Australia’s domestic debit network. As a domestic acquirer, NAB delivers higher authorization rates for Australian transactions compared to cross-border processing, along with settlement in Australian dollars and compliance with local regulatory requirements. NAB’s Fraud Guard provides built-in risk management with customizable rules, and the gateway supports tokenization for recurring and card-on-file payment scenarios.

Shuttle integrates NAB into its unified payment layer, enabling platforms to put their Australian merchants on NAB’s domestic acquiring infrastructure while keeping connections to international processors for merchants elsewhere. Through Shuttle, platforms gain the authorization rate and cost benefits of local Australian processing without building or maintaining a direct NAB Transact integration. Voice Checkout payments for merchants configured against NAB are processed through NAB, with Shuttle limiting the merchant’s PCI scope, and Links Checkout uses NAB for those merchants too. Embedded Payment Layer flows benefit from NAB’s tokenization capabilities, passed through Shuttle’s payment layer for card-on-file and subscription use cases.

Connecting NAB through Shuttle is especially valuable for platforms serving the Australian and Asia-Pacific markets alongside a global customer base. Rather than managing NAB’s specific API and authentication in parallel with other PSP integrations, platforms work through a single Shuttle interface, with transaction and refund data in one format. Platforms can also add fraud rules through Shuttle across their transaction volume.
