Payments on Telnyx

Take Card Payments on Telnyx Calls

Your calls stay on Telnyx. Shuttle works as the payment connector for Telnyx <Pay> in TeXML: the caller keys their card, Telnyx captures it, and Shuttle charges it through your own payment provider, from 30+ that support voice.

$49/mo per live instance (one payment channel) · 245 transactions included every month, then from $0.20 per transaction, falling with volume, billed by Shuttle

A phone keypad on a call: the caller is asked for their card number, expiry and security code, the digits show masked, and the payment succeeds

How Payments Work on Telnyx

Telnyx collects card details during a live call with the <Pay> verb in TeXML. The caller keys their card on the phone keypad, and Telnyx keeps the digits away from your agent, human or AI, and out of your recordings.

Telnyx then sends the captured card to a payment connector you configure. Shuttle is that connector: it charges the card through your payment provider, or tokenises it with your provider, and replies to Telnyx. The card passes through Shuttle's PCI DSS Level 1 environment to your provider, which issues any token. Shuttle does not store the card.

Why Shuttle on Telnyx

Features

30+ Payment Providers

The same 30+ payment providers that support voice on Shuttle, including Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Authorize.net, Cybersource and Worldpay Access. Keep your provider and your merchant account.

No Endpoint to Build

Telnyx needs an HTTPS endpoint to send the card to. Build your own and the card lands on your servers, in PCI scope. With Shuttle, you copy the endpoint and credentials from the Merchant Portal and point a Telnyx connector at them.

PCI DSS Level 1

Card data passes through Shuttle's PCI DSS Level 1 environment to your provider, so your PCI scope is heavily reduced. You still complete your own self-assessment. Shuttle also holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2.

Secure Keypad Capture

Callers key in their card on the phone keypad. Telnyx keeps the digits away from the agent and out of the call recording.

Charge or Save the Card

Take the payment now, or tokenise the card with your provider for later. Cards and ACH. ACH on a call goes through Authorize.net.

Run Twilio and Telnyx Together

Shuttle's Twilio and Telnyx connectors can both be live on one Shuttle instance, so you choose the carrier for each call flow.

How to Set Up Shuttle on Telnyx

Four Steps

  1. 1

    Connect your payment provider

In the Shuttle Merchant Portal, connect the payment provider you already use.

  2. 2

    Open Telnyx Pay Configuration

On your instance's Telnyx Pay Configuration page in the Merchant Portal, copy the endpoint URL and the credentials to give Telnyx. You need an admin login.

  3. 3

    Create the connector in Telnyx

In the Telnyx portal, go to Voice API > Applications > Payment Connectors and create a connector with basic auth, using the endpoint and credentials from Shuttle.

  4. 4

    Add <Pay> to your TeXML

At the payment step, run <Pay> with your Shuttle connector named in paymentConnector, and pass the currency as a <Parameter>. The result comes back to your flow: the charge or token ID and the masked card. For the full record, look up that ID in Shuttle's API.

Telnyx Payment Use Cases

Use Cases

Contact Centres on Telnyx

Agents pass the caller to a <Pay> step in your TeXML, and the card digits never reach them. Want the agent to start the payment from the Voice API? Talk to us before you build.

IVR Payment Automation

Callers reach your IVR on Telnyx and pay by keying their card at the payment step. No agent required.

AI Voice Agents on TeXML

AI voice flows built on TeXML can hand the payment step to <Pay>, and the digits stay out of the AI and the transcript. Building on a Telnyx AI Assistant? Talk to us before you build.

Collections and BPOs

Collection agencies and BPOs on Telnyx take payments during calls, and card details never reach the agents, which limits PCI scope across distributed teams.

Telnyx Payments FAQ

FAQ

What does Shuttle do on Telnyx?

Shuttle works as the payment connector for Telnyx <Pay> in TeXML. Telnyx captures the card on the keypad and posts it to Shuttle. Shuttle charges it through your payment provider, or tokenises it with your provider, and replies to Telnyx. Shuttle does not capture the keypad digits itself.

Which payment providers can I use?

The same 30+ payment providers that support voice on Shuttle, including Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Authorize.net, Cybersource and Worldpay Access.

Does it work with the Telnyx Voice API or a Telnyx AI Assistant?

Shuttle's connector covers the <Pay> verb in TeXML. If you start payments from the Voice API pay action, or from the Pay tool on a Telnyx AI Assistant, talk to us before you build.

Which currencies are supported?

Any currency your payment provider supports. Pass the currency as a <Parameter> in <Pay>; without it, Telnyx sends the payment as USD.

What comes back to my call flow?

Telnyx returns the charge or token ID and the masked card to your TeXML flow. For the full transaction record, look up that ID in Shuttle's API.

Can I run Twilio and Telnyx at the same time?

Yes. Shuttle's Twilio and Telnyx connectors are separate routes and can both be live on one Shuttle instance. Setting up Telnyx does not change anything on Twilio. Twilio-route transactions are billed through your Twilio account, outside the bundle. Shuttle is Twilio's chosen provider to enable Twilio Pay for many payment gateways.

Is it PCI compliant?

Shuttle is PCI DSS Level 1. Card data captured by Telnyx passes through Shuttle's PCI DSS Level 1 environment to your payment provider and never touches your infrastructure, so your PCI scope is heavily reduced. Merchants complete SAQ-A, the lightest PCI self-assessment; platforms complete SAQ-D. Everyone taking card payments has to be PCI compliant, and your acquirer confirms which form applies to you.

How much does it cost?

Shuttle charges $49 per live instance per month, with 245 transactions included, then from $0.20 per transaction, falling with volume. On Telnyx, Shuttle bills the transactions, so they count against the 245 included. Your Telnyx call charges are separate. See pricing for the full model.

How do I set it up?

Connect your payment provider in the Merchant Portal, copy the endpoint and credentials from your instance's Telnyx Pay Configuration page, create a Payment Connector in the Telnyx portal with basic auth, and name it in <Pay> in your TeXML, passing the currency as a <Parameter>.
