Why Google Pay?

Overview

Google Pay is Google’s digital wallet and payment platform, enabling consumers to pay using cards stored in their Google account across Android devices, Chrome browsers, and any web-based checkout. With hundreds of millions of active users worldwide, Google Pay removes checkout friction by letting customers authenticate with biometrics or device credentials rather than manually entering card details. For merchants and platforms, Google Pay transactions benefit from tokenized credentials that improve authorization rates and reduce fraud, since the actual card number is never shared during the transaction.

Shuttle’s integration with Google Pay makes the wallet available as a payment method across Embedded Payments and Payment Links without platforms needing to implement the Google Pay API directly. When a customer selects Google Pay within a Shuttle-powered checkout, the tokenized payment credential is passed through Shuttle’s orchestration layer to whichever PSP the platform has configured for processing. This means Google Pay works seamlessly alongside other payment methods in a unified flow — a platform can offer Google Pay, Apple Pay, and traditional card entry within the same checkout experience, all routed to the optimal processor based on the platform’s rules. Shuttle handles the Google Pay session management, token exchange, and processor routing transparently.

By offering Google Pay through Shuttle, platforms tap into a massive base of mobile-first consumers who expect wallet-based checkout options. The reduction in checkout friction directly translates to higher conversion rates, particularly on mobile devices where form entry is cumbersome. Shuttle ensures that Google Pay transactions flow through the same reporting, reconciliation, and settlement infrastructure as all other payment methods, giving platforms a single view of their transaction data regardless of how the customer chose to pay. For platforms operating globally, Google Pay’s broad geographic availability complements region-specific payment methods that Shuttle can route in parallel.
